The School of Medicine, established in 1977, is one of the famous educational departments of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS). After the foundation of the Ministry of Public Health, the School of Medicine was established in 1986 as the integration of Ayatollah Taleghani School of Medicine and Iran Medical Center. Ayatollah Taleghani Medicine Complex was established on March 19, 1974 as the name Batmanghlij, and was dependent to the Red Crescent.

The School of Medicine is responsible for educating general medical students as well as 81 Master’s students, 144 PhD students, 914 assistant students in 24 specialties, 68 assistants in 18 sub-specialties, and 103 graduate assistants in 27 fellowship fields. A total of 502 faculty members are engaged in basic science and clinical education departments. As of 2014, 1,238 students study general medicine in the School of Medicine and related hospitals, 237 of whom are in basic sciences, 178 in physiopathology, 505 in training, and 318 at the internship level. 439 professors teach clinical medicine, and 63 teach basic sciences, for a total of 570 faculty members.
